Bring the problem you want solved. We’ll shape it into a project brief you can keep — or let AI draft a first approach.
A laboratory workflow problem does not automatically require a new LIMS. It may need a configuration change, a better import, a focused application around the existing system or a larger platform evaluation. The right decision begins with the gap, not the product category.
Follow one sample from receipt through testing and review. Record where staff retype information, ask for status or maintain a parallel spreadsheet. Identify which system owns the sample, result and review status at each step.
A clear problem statement might be: “Analysts cannot see which imported results failed identifier checks.” That is more actionable than “We need a modern laboratory platform.”
If the existing system supports the workflow, assess configuration and training before building a second application. A duplicate tool can create competing records and additional reconciliation work.
Check vendor support, available features and licensing with the system owner. Do not assume an advertised capability is enabled or appropriate for the installation you use.
A custom extension may be useful for an unsupported instrument format, a cross-system dashboard or a specific intake process. Define the interface, ownership and failure behavior clearly.
For an instrument import, test missing identifiers, duplicate files, units and malformed rows. A successful import of one clean file does not establish a reliable integration.
If the gap affects the core sample lifecycle, a larger LIMS evaluation may be appropriate. Include migration, role definitions, validation responsibilities, support and user adoption in the comparison. The implementation effort extends beyond recreating screens.
Compare options against the same representative workflows and acceptance criteria. Avoid choosing solely on the number of features in a demonstration.
Bring a sample journey, system and instrument versions, redacted file examples and the roles involved in review. List the operational constraints that would make an otherwise attractive solution unsuitable.
